Hi all,
Here is my suggested COD4 settings for slower sytems or graphics cards. To be done in this order.
Texture - leave on auto (seems to do a reasonalble job of detecting)
Graphics - follow the 3 rules to cover all the options available.
1)If available, turn EVERYTHING off
2)Anything that can't be turned off, set to low.
3)Turn 'Glow' on.
Resolution - This will now become your only tool for increasing performance. Adjust the resolution to the maximum you can whilst keeping fps reasonalble (use console command "/cg_drawfps 1" to show fps on screen (note "/cg_drawfps 0" turns this back off).
Refresh rate - set to the maximum your screen can display for the resolution selected. This has no effect on fps, just reduces flicker of the screen.
As long as 'Glow' has been turned on, the game still looks very good indeed. Glow does not seem to hamper fps much, but does make a big difference to the 'feel' of the environments.
Once all this is done, if you still have a good frame rate (say above 80fps), you may then want to consider turning on some of the other effects. However, i cannot emphasize enough that the game doesn't need it. It realy does look good with the options as above and at a reasonable resolution.
